Dear panhandlers: I am much more prone to giving you change if you're honest -- or even just ask and don't bother giving details -- than if you tell me how pretty I am, you just need some change for the meter so you can get your oil changed (what?) oh wow we have the same name (as the fake name I gave him).
Really.
Really.

I was struck today by the desire to form a roving band of street performers and/or conmen and/or performance-bloggers, who could travel from street festival to street festival in a biodiesel-converted VW bus.
Then I found out that there's a guy in town selling a VW bus for $1200. God dammit, world. You aren't supposed to encourage me in these things!

There are a few times of year in Asheville that I love even more than the rest. Bele Chere, when the mulberries in the edible garden are ripe...
Now's a good time. Early spring. Everything's starting to warm up, and the trees that line the streets downtown are blooming. I don't know the names, but they have these little white and purple-pink flowers, and whenever there's a stiff breeze, the petals come off in handfuls, and pile up against the sidewalks and in corners. You can grab a handful of them and toss them up like confetti.

So, huh. Turns out advertising gets you apps. Who knew, right?
...of course, it might be better if they spent more than five minutes reading the comm before apping, but hey. That's what the apps are there for.

My pal Tod (whom many of you know!) is having another icon sale, both of normal icons, and of some rather spectacularly creepy ones. They're $10 each, which for the quality of work you're getting, is a steal. (Many of them are anthro icons! But as you can see from this very post, those aren't all he does.)
The sale post is here. (And his website is here, and his Etsy shop is here.) He's also selling prints!

Give me a character or characters, a pairing, a fandom, a prompt, anything of that nature. I'll try to write you a short drabble.

1. Make a list of 5 things you can see without getting up:
2. How do you style your hair? Buzz-cut. Self-done, so there's usually little patches of it that I miss. I think it adds to my charm.
3. What are you wearing now? Purple chenille sweater, khakis, green boot socks, sneakers. Blue toque.
4. What's your occupation? Student. Which basically means I pay people thousands of dollars so that I can look things up and write about them. And when I'm done, I get a piece of paper!
( ...etc. )

- Mug of coffee, been here since this morning. Still drinking it.
- Manicure kit.
- My blanket. :3
- The hill...mountain... that Tunnel Road goes under.
- Bag of rice!

I've talked about this other places, but I have to talk about it here, too.
Downloaded the IMAX rip of Dark Knight. 8.7 gig movie file. The most fucking beautiful thing I've ever seen. If anyone needs/wants terrifyingly detailed screencaps, hit me up.

Okay, you know what? I know it's stupid. I know it's bone-deep, blindingly stupid. But goddamn if I'm not going to enjoy Dark Reign anyway.

Classics, history, and lit majors! See if you can spot the problem with this sentence fragment:
"...if you want to do a paper based on Catullus, an author who writes during the time of Augustus..."
This is teacher of my Roman Republic class saying this.

Of my typewritten notes-to-self in my Roman Republic paper rough draft:
"I'm a little concerned about your paper. It looks like it's already been critiqued. Are these your notes?"
I... I have to admit, I'm not entirely certain what she's implying here. That it's a bad thing to have someone else look over my rough draft before I turn it in? That if I did so, I'm too stupid/lazy to edit the commentary out before I turned it in to her? I mean, sure, I did leave the notes in, but that was for my own reference, and so she would know that I knew those things needed work.
I'm just going to have to put a 'hi, these are my notes' note next time, huh?

Dear Dr. Hook: I know you know nothing about the books/movie, and you were just referring to the appeal of certain themes in love stories, but if you ever bring Twilight up in conjunction with Abelard and Heloise again, I'm not going to be able to get into the stairwell before I start laughing, this time.

Aaaargh teacher keeps calling me out for not paying attention when I am, in fact, doing exactly that thing. I can't help being fidgety, dammit. ._.
(Well, I can, but it involves much less caffeine, and much more sleeping in class.)

So, the roommate stopped by to tell me we ran out of heating oil today, and won't have any 'til Wednesday.
As well, the dryer is still broken.
...I'm going to make myself a stiff drink, and then get on Craigslist and look for rooms for rent.

Accomplishments of the day:
New library card!
Joined friends of the library.
Cashed birthday check!
Bought craft stuff.
Started reading book for paper/presentation on Roger Bacon, laid out rough outline.
Worked some more on Sociology paper. (Hope to finish that up tomorrow.)
Also, I really wish my roomies weren't so fond of watching the TV loudly as they are. I am not good at concentrating when there's a lot of background noise. Or when there's music playing.

Man, you know, it's nice to go into class and not be terrified you'll be picked to translate. I'm gonna have to try and keep this up.
Semi-relatedly, I need to figure out a topic for my final paper in History of the Roman Republic. Since the guidelines given were, uh, basically "oh, just write about something related to the Romans in that period," I'm at a little bit of a loss as to exactly what. o_O
